About Linda's Chihuahuas

Chihuahuas and me!

You would never guess that I didn’t have a dog when I was growing up! Still in the old country, when I was about ten years old, a fierce, big German Shepherd took a chunk out of my thigh leaving huge teeth marks! I feared dogs! Throughout the rest of my childhood and young adulthood I never owned a dog.

Around the time I was twenty I unexpectedly developed severe asthma, a workplace hazard. At that point I figured, “Well, now I’ll never get a dog with these allergies and my condition.” I had resigned myself to that.

A few years later, my dear brother-in-law had a customer come into his office one day.  This man lovingly carried a tiny Chihuahua on his chest. Interested in making conversation and finding out why this gentleman carried the dog with him, he asked a number of questions.  The customer willingly explained, “If it were not for this Chihuahua, I could not be able to walk from my car to your office and back.”  That surprised my brother-in-law and he told the customer, “My sister-in-law has severe asthma and allergies. I’m going to tell her about your dog.”

To me it was providential. I took my brother-in-law’s advice. After seeing an ad for a Chihuahua for $50.00 I decided to buy him.  After all, that wouldn’t be a huge loss if things didn’t work out!

The difference this dog immediately made in my life is unbelievable! But what to do?  This little critter was not potty trained. I had a new house and didn’t want his messes.

I returned him and didn’t even get a refund! Within three days, I noticed that I had to have this dog back to be able to breathe without suffocating and gasping for air. Fortunately, the owner returned the dog to me and I took on the challenge of training this pooch!  My health improved! I FELT SO GREAT!  No more needles! No more cortisone shots! All these years!

I didn’t stop at training!  When my first dog, Nipper became quite old, I looked into breeding another dog for myself. Over the next ten years Candy was one of the dogs which I bred successfully, birthing a total of 25 pups over the years!  For the past six years I’ve been even been showing championship Chihuahuas.

It’s my first passion to be involved with these wonderful dogs. For me this was done always with an eye towards being a help to others the way I was helped by my first much loved Nipper.

You would think that this was a big enough hobby in itself!  Well, you would be wrong!  Creating a huge variety of handcrafted items is my second passion!  I love sewing, crocheting, and knitting and sell my goods at all the dog shows I attend. Among the many things I craft are: doggy beds, coats, expen wraps, all kinds of kennel covers, real fur squeaky toys, blankets, etc. etc. Most of these items can be custom crafted with your taste and colors.

Feel free to contact me with your questions and your orders! Hope to hear from you soon!

The Chihuahuas and I loved to participate in the Pet Therapy program. The residents looked forward to the Chihuahuas coming in and sitting on their laps.
